John 1:8-13

John 1:8-13 (HCSB) 8 He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. 9 The true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was created through Him, yet the world did not recognize Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. 12 But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.

The world did not recognize Jesus for who He was. Most of the world still does not. When people don’t see Jesus for who He is, they do not receive Him. But to those who receive him He adopts us into His family. And just so we don’t get a big head about it, He reminds us that it is not by our choice, but God’s.

Thank God that he makes us His children.

Table Talk:

Teenagers:

1) How does the world respond to Jesus?

2) How do you respond to Jesus?

3) Have you received Jesus?

4) How has that made a difference?

Pray: Dear God help me to see the value in becoming a child of God. Amen

For Children:

1) Do you know someone who is adopted?

2) God adopted us into His family, how does that make you feel?

3) What do these verses say we need to do to receive Jesus?

Pray: Thank you Jesus for allowing us to become your children. Amen.

For Preschoolers:
